Visit Turkey On Holiday

Turkey is a land filled with history, natural beauty, and modern entertainment. Because of these factors, Turkey has become a popular tourist destination. In fact, nearly 2,000,000 visitors from the British Isles alone flock to Turkey each year. If you have the desire to enjoy the unique experiences that the country has to offer, do not just hop aboard a plane and take off. There are some Turkey travel tips that you should know.

Turkish is Turkey’s official language, and you will likely come across a large contingent that speaks the tongue. Granted, Turkish is the predominant language spoken in Turkey, but there are places that employ English as well. There was even a hiring campaign recently that aimed to place native English speakers in teaching positions at several schools and universities. In the academic areas such as these as well as at the most popular tourist hotspots, you will probably have no problem communicating in English. In most of the other parts of Turkey, little to no English is spoken.

Upon arriving in Turkey, you will want to convert your money into lira, as that is the official currency of the country. At one point, the lira was the second least valuable world currency, but upon the money’s reevaluation in the mid-2000s, it has increased in worth. You can use an online currency converter before you leave for Turkey to get a general idea of how many lira your funds will yield.

Spring is the best season in which to travel to Turkey. The entire country experiences moderate weather at this time, although April tends to be rainy. Visiting Istanbul at this time, however, will result in higher prices there because it is peak season in the capital. Hotels will likely be booked solid, but the resorts found on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts will be slow at this time. Hotels are easy to come by there during the spring. In the autumn, the resorts are less busy again, and the water is still warm from the summer sun. Winter is the least favorable season in which to visit Turkey, but the benefit is that there are fewer crowds, and the tourist activities are not as expensive.

The preparations for traveling to Turkey are fairly similar to those of visiting any nation. Budget your currency conversion, and determine when times are slow and when they are busy. This will help you determine what to expect and how much of it you are able to handle. Accounting for these factors and remembering some basic tips will make your journey that much more pleasurable.

Visiting Bulgaria In Eastern Europe

Bulgaria has been a member of the European Union since 2007. It is increasingly popular with international travelers. If you are thinking of going, when and where should you go? Basically, Bulgaria is amazing at any time of the year. If you are after comfortable temperatures and lots of culture, spring is a good time to go. For festivals and hiking, you should go in summer. Fall is good for the Black Sea Coast and, if you want to go skiing, you should go in winter.

When it comes to getting around in Bulgaria, there are quite a few options open to you. It’s an easy country to get to as you can either fly there or use a European rail pass and go by train. The public transport in the country is mostly very good value and the bus is considered to be better than the train. However, the capital city of Sofia also has very good tram and metro systems, while if you are looking to explore the countryside you could try cycling.

The official currency that has long been used in Bulgaria is known as the ‘lev’. One lev is made up of 100 stotinki and it is a very stable currency. There is also a fairly easy conversion rate: 20 lev is worth around 10 euros. You can also pay for some things in euros, although it is not the official currency of Bulgaria. For some large purchases, the price may be quoted to you in euros but more often than not you will be asked to pay using local money.

When drawing up your list of places to visit in Bulgaria, make sure the Black Sea Coast is near the top. The towns of Varna and Sozopol are gorgeous and well worth a visit, for instance. You’ll find lots of art galleries, Roman baths and plenty of spas to visit and explore. There’s also a good mix of tourist developments and quieter areas. You should check out Sunny Beach for a popular tourist area, while for something a bit quieter, Sinemorets is a great place.

Despite the fact that Sofia is the capital city of Bulgaria and also the biggest city, a lot of tourists don’t actually go there. This is a shame as it’s great to visit. There are lots of good museums, theaters and plenty of green spaces to visit. There are also a lot of modern developments such as five star hotels, and nice bars and restaurants. These are coupled with the memories of communism in Bulgaria, such as Ottoman mosques and domed churches that you should definitely explore.

When Planning Italian Cheap City Breaks Place Rome Breaks High On Your List.

You would think this goes without saying but there are so many places to visit in Italy. Rome has to be the top spot. It is one of my favourite places in the world. It has everything. The first time I went it was for a day-imagine, what can you do in Rome in one day? The next time it was for five days, much better.

On my Italian city short breaks I stayed in a hotel on the Vatican side of the river and for me the location was perfect. I don’t suppose anyone goes to Rome without visiting St.Peter’s and whatever your purpose: religious , lover of art or history , it is there. It is also worth going to the top for the view over Rome and the view from the gallery half way up. Also, the Vatican museum and the Cistine Chapel are must visits. It is just not possible to describe how amazing these places are. You just have to go. It is worth the queue so go early. There are audio guides available and you must have your passport or they will not let you have one. It is a good idea to plan in advance what your priorities are as you will not see the whole thing in one visit. For instance I had been to Egypt so I gave that room a miss.

There are the usual hop on hop off tours which are always a good way to get your bearings as it will make your Rome weekend breaks easier to plan. I tended to walk everywhere, it gives you a good feel of the atmosphere and you see things you would otherwise miss, but the bus is quicker. There are self guided walking tours which go to all the main points of interest including the Trevi Fountain. If you need to stop for a quick bite while you are walking about you should try the brightly coloured vans which sell slices of pizza and panini and drinks. They are good value and you can save your evening meal to relax.

I also loved Castell Gandolfo as this was the backdrop to one of my favourite operas , ‘Tosca’. Another favourite was the Villa Borghese , the paintings and the sculptures were amazing but you must book well in advance and take your passport to get the audio guide. I would certainly not want to miss the Pantheon which was a Roman temple later becoming a Christian Church. Don’t be put off by the ugly exterior the inside is amazing with the huge dome and the tomb of Raphael. There are no windows, the only light is from the hole high up in the centre of the dome.

I enjoyed the outside places too. The Forum, The iconic Colosseum, Trajan’s Market (probably the first shopping mall) and of course all the Piazzas.

After all this there is the shopping and eating to fit in. One of my best half hours was sitting in the Piazza Navona by Bernini’s wonderful fountain, drinking coffee and eating a cannoli.

Remember to throw a coin over your shoulder into the Trevi Fountain, as you will certainly want to return.

How To Find Travel And Weekend Breaks Cheaply

How to find and enjoy travel and short breaks cheaply is for the wise traveller and those who pursue value for money holidays and vacations.

As Satchmo sings it truly is a wonderful world.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain

The world and all it has to offer is fantastic and it is true that travel does broaden the mind and fill your memory bank with wonderful thoughts.

Just cast your mind back to your last vacation or cheap breaks… for one minute … doesn’t it feel great.

Now anticipate your next adventure how do you feel now … excited!

To explore this planet it is said you need three things time, money and health.

However the latter can be overcome mainly by having the cash. Whatever your position you will if you have the travel bug you want to see all of the world that you can.

It is true there are many, many pages on travel on the web and there are a lot of similar sites.

A lot seem to be just a series of adverts held together with a little bit of text.

Or the page is just one provider offering their travel agent services.

This article is not from a travel agentbut offers an independent view and shares information that I personally have found beneficial.

“Vacation is what you take when you can’t take what you’ve been taking any longer.” anon

With travel there is always the sense of wonder and today it is possible it seems to be able to visit any corner of the globe within twenty-four hours.

The impulse to travel to attractive and stunning landscapes, beautiful beaches and vibrant multicultural cities together with the joy of stepping in to other cultures burns within most individuals.

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” - Mark Twain

We’re all aware of the benefits that taking a couple of weeks off work to go on vacation can have on our moods - but it seems that taking a break at least once a year can offer benefits to our bodies as well.

A recent research by the Framingham Heart Study showed that women who take two vacations a year are eight times less likely to suffer from heart disease than those who do not manage to get away at all. It also showed that incidences of depression doubled among women who did not take vacations when compared with women who did.

So take a short break or travel on holiday to rest your mind and body.

If you need some spiritual advice on the benefit of Travel and short breaks listen to … Pope Benedict XVI, who was on holiday in the Italian Alps.

He extolled the virtue of taking a holiday to escape the frenetic pace of day-to-day life.

He said holidays “have become almost a necessity to recover in body and spirit, especially for those who live in the city where the often frenetic conditions of life leave little space for silence and reflection.

“In contact with nature, people can again find their true dimension.

They rediscover themselves as creatures, small but at the same time unique.”

The pontiff was speaking to local residents and tourists who turned out for Sunday Mass near the mountain village of Les Combes in the shadow of Mont Blanc.

The pope was reinforcing what St. Augustine said, “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”

Cheap conveys shoddy or below par and there are plenty of those around in all price ranges.

I’m sure that for your city or weekend breaks you will prefer true value for money travel and short breaks.

weekend city breaks are ideal because the time of year doesn’t really matter. You can easily fit them in on top of other vacations

Also, you can find one near to where you live or travel further afield.

A short break enables you to get a flavour of the city you have chosen to visit; therefore if it isn’t to your taste you haven’t wasted too much time.

However, if you love it and don’t have time to see everything you can re-visit for another short break or a longer time.

The first thing to decide is what are you particularly interested in. If you don’t have a particular interest then the world is your oyster.

If you love to shop then London & New York have to be at the top of the list, of course there is more to these cities than shops so you can take a break from shopping.

For the romantic break the obvious choices are Paris or Venice.

For the more culturally inclined how could you beat Rome or Florence?

For something exotic there is Cairo, Marrakech, or, further afield Kuala Lumpur-yes!

For those who love music there are lots of different festivals but possibly the best known is Verona.

On a personal note I have enjoyed all the above cities I have visited.

If I have to pick just one, not easy, it would be Rome. This city has history, art (indoors & out), good food, mostly good weather and the atmosphere is great because the people are generally very friendly and welcoming, although it can be expensive-be careful where you sit down to eat.

One very important tip is to be organised, make a timetable of things you want to see and do in order of priority and reserve tickets if needed before you go.

This may sound very obvious but it is surprising how much time can be wasted deciding what to do once you are there. When we were last in Rome we reserved tickets for entrance to the Villa Borghesi as we had read that only a certain number was allowed in at one session that lasted for a stated time. Some people were just turning up and many did not get in

Also do some research, we find this to be as enjoyable as the break itself as when you start to look at what there is to do in your chosen city it’s as though the break has already begun.

You often come across unexpected little things that add so much to the break. For instance, when we were going to Venice we read about the Ghetto island where Jewish people were made to live when they escaped various countries that were expelling in the 13 century i.e. England for one, this is the backdrop to ‘The Merchant of Venice’ They were locked in at sundown and this is where the general term ghetto came from. We had an interesting and moving time on our visit thanks to a little research.

We love to travel, anywhere. We love to visit cities in our own Country.

Wherever you live do not think that the best places to visit must always be in another Country.

We all have wonderful and rich places to visit on our doorstep, which we neglect simply for that reason.

Of course, it is so interesting to visit other Countries, to see how they live, eat, relax and what their particular culture is like. It is so easy to book airline tickets, hotels, entrance tickets, even taxis, from the comfort of your own living room. What could be better than having a comfortable seat, a glass of wine and some background music while you book your break.

Booking Online With Your Local Travel Professional

As we are all aware in recent years the travel industry has gone through an amazing transformation with the popularity of online reservation sites. Unfortunately, just like any other online industry there are always pitfalls that could wind up destroying your dream vacation.

I’ve been involved in the travel industry for the better part of 20 years and I’ve witnessed and lived many horrendous events. We need to look at the pros and cons of booking online yourself compared to going to your local travel agent.

Through my personal experience I was able to gather valuable information from my clients upon their return from their vacation. Whether they had reserved their trip with me or from an online site, I would always contact them after the fact in order to get their feedback on how the flight was, the service and food at the hotel, the availability and expertise of the local destination representative and any other comments that they wanted to express. This type of information is truly valuable and I would share their comments with potential clients that were looking at visiting the same destination or more precisely the same hotel.

Below is what I believe are the major differences between the 2 options:

1) Booking online:

PROS:

- flexibility of reserving when your local agency is closed
- feeling of a job well done by handling everything on your own
- convenience of not having to commute
- the possibility of reserving at a better price
- access to a wealth of information readily available online

CONS:

- if you’re not a seasoned traveler you could wind up reserving something not to your liking
- lack of support offered if the site is an affiliate of a larger company
- if you don’t like your trip you have only yourself to blame!

2) Booking with a local travel agent:

PROS:

- you are to able rely on the agent’s experience and knowledge to get valuable information before reserving
- in case of an emergency or if any trouble arises you have someone backing you up and readily available to offer support
- a travel agent can provide the proper information concerning the various insurance options. Traveling without insurance is a definite NO-NO

CONS:

- you might wind up paying a little more with the introduction of travel agent service fees particularly on airline tickets
- having the misfortune of landing on an agent that has even less knowledge than yourself for where you are planning to travel

Of course every traveler has a different level of experience. Therefore, if you are frequent traveler booking online should not discourage you. On the other hand if you travel less frequently you are advised to visit a local travel agent and before you do so choose an agency that has been in operation for years in order to avoid any pitfalls.
