Aerospace Needs to Stay Competitive in Troubled Times
Canada’s Minister for industry has said his country’s thriving aerospace industry is doing well enough not to need any financial support from the federal system. He then went on to inform the Canadian Space Agency that Canada has an enviable and solid reputation in the aerospace industry which would transport them well into the future and that the Canadian Government should only provide funding as normal through the current tax and investments routes
He did however state in the current economic recession that is not possible to say how the global financial system would sit in the future and a review might then be an appropriate course of action, but certainly not now.
In a completely opposing statement the president of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada claimed federal financial aid was most certainly necessary in order for the aerospace industry to stay highly competitive in the global arena. Lajeunesse claimed that financial aid was vital to Canada’s aerospace industry and it was needed right now to ensure Canada remained one of the most competitive countries during extremely challenging times ahead.
The whole issue has come to a head after the Prime Minister, Stephen Harper did not to deliver the $200m investment to the aerospace industry he had earlier suggested in a run up to an important electorate campaign. Finding that Lajeunesse says is most important for defence and aerospace research requirements.
